​The Utah Chinese Center (UCC), a non-profit organization, located in Salt Lake City, Utah was founded in 1987.
​
UCC’s primary mission is to promote China and the Chinese culture in Utah and in the Western United States. UCC also educates second and future generations of those with Chinese heritage currently living in Utah and the surrounding areas.

Significant activities of the Utah Chinese Center include the following:

Chinese Language Acquisition
Located in Salt Lake City, the Utah Chinese Center School teaches a variety of classes in the Chinese language primarily to second generation Chinese Americans ages 5 through 18.  Classes for native English speaking adults interested in learning the Chinese language are also available.

Joint Education Programs:
 
Utah Institute of Science and Technology (UIST)
In 1995, the UCC established and founded the UIST on the Shanghai Teachers University campus located in Shanghai, China.  UIST administered programs in cooperation with the University of Utah, Weber State University, and Salt Lake Community College.  UIST conducted academic programs, coordinated faculty exchange, and hosted study abroad and exchange programs for all institutions.  UIST built several new buildings on the Shanghai campus and became one of the fastest growing areas of the university with more than nine hundred students enrolled in its programs. At the UIST, students enrolled in Business Information Technology, Economics, Automotive Technology and Tourism.
 
In October of 2006 the UIST hosted Utah Governor John Huntsman during his visit to China.  UCC coordinated his visit.  In May of 2009, Governor Huntsman was nominated by President Obama to be the American Ambassador to China.

Shanghai Medical Workers College
In cooperation with Salt lake Community College, UCC runs a joint education program in Nursing at the Shanghai Medical Workers College in Shanghai.

Joint Academic Programs:
Luoyang University
In cooperation with Salt Lake Community College, UCC runs academic programs in Logistics and Multi-Media at Luoyang University in Henan Province, located a few hundred miles to the northwest of Shanghai.
 
Heilongjiang Forestry Health College
In cooperation with Weber State University, UCC runs academic programs in Nursing and conducts faculty exchange programs in cooperation with the Heilongjiang Forestry Health College, Jiamusi, China.  Jiamusi is located several hundred miles to the northeast of Beijing.
 
Heilongjiang Forestry Technical College
In cooperation with Salt lake Community College, UCC runs academic programs in Logistics and Automotive Technology at the Heilongjiang Forestry Technical College in Mudanjiang, China.

Training Programs for Shanghai Oriental Rostrum.
In cooperation with Salt Lake Community College, Weber State University, and various Utah Governmental agencies, UCC runs training programs in areas of Public Safety, Homeland Security and Volunteer Recruitment.  They also host art exhibitions for Chinese Farmers whose paintings are exhibited in Salt Lake City.

Previous and Ongoing Exchange Programs. 
 
Exchange programs coordinated and conducted by the Utah Chinese Center since inception include:
  • Summer intensive English and culture programs in Utah for groups of junior and high school students from Taiwan ad Shanghai.
  • Annual visits (since 1997) of the Weber State University Band to the International Band Festival in Chai Yi City, Taiwan.
  • Educational visit of the Salt Lake Community College Volleyball team to Shanghai, China.
  • Weber State University Orchestra visit to Shanghai for three concerts (hosted by Shanghai Teachers University).
  • Regular visits (since 1997) of faculty from Salt Lake Community College for educational tours of Shanghai and other areas in China.
  • Various educational and cultural visits of groups from Phoenix, Arizona, and Salt Lake City to Shanghai and other areas in China.
  • Established a Foreign Language High School affiliate program with Olympus High School in Salt Lake City and Shanghai Teachers University.  
  • Established a Weber State University Master’s Degree in Education Program for students from Taiwan & teachers in China.
  • Established a Montana University Doctoral Degree in Education Program for Chinese students.
  • Established in conjunction with Weber State University a Foreign Registered Nurse Program.   
  • Established in conjunction with Salt Lake Community College and the Larry H. Miller Dealership Group, an Automotive Training Program.
  • Brought over a group of car dealer managers/owners from Shanghai to visit Salt Lake Community College and attend seminars conducted by the Larry H. Miller Oldsmobile car dealership.
  • Designed a Foreign Registered Nurse Program in cooperation with the Huangpu Health Bureau in Shanghai.
  • Established and coordinated the visit of a Salt Lake Community College  choir group which conducted concerts in Shanghai and Beijing in October 2003
  • Coordinated the visit of the Capital University Band  from Columbus, Ohio for a visit to the International Band Festival in Chai Yi City, Taiwan, in Dec.2004
  • Brought over a group of Fongxian District officers from Shanghai to visit the Utah State Government Department of Community and Economic Development organization, attend seminars at the Salt Lake Community College, and visit the Larry H. Miller Automotive Dealership Group.
  • Brought the Weber State University Orchestra to Xian for concerts hosted by Xian Conservatory of Music in March 2005.
  • Conducted in cooperation with the Shanghai Social Science Agency, a visit by a group of Weber State University MBA students to Beijing and Shanghai in May of 2006.
  • Conducted in cooperation with the Shanghai Social Science Agency, a visit (which included a dancing performance) for Park City Academy (Utah) Junior High students to various schools in Shanghai & Beijing during August of 2006.
  • Coordinated study abroad trips for institutions in China and the United States since 1995
  • Brought faculty from Weber State University to visit various Chinese Universities every year since 2003.
  • Established a scholarship program for outstanding Chinese students to educate themselves at U.S. higher education institutions.
  • Established in conjunction with Weber State University, an Automotive Training Program, International Economic and Math with 2+2 programs for Chinese students.

Utah Trade Mission Project:
In cooperation with the Shanghai Foreign Investment Division, the Shanghai Foreign Economic and Trade Commission, and the Shanghai City Government, the UCC arranged one-on-one meetings with Utah companies as a part of a Utah Trade Mission visit to China in April of 2004

Program Partnerships 
 
The Utah Chinese Center has established several partnerships with public and private (mostly medically-related) institutions in China and Taiwan.  Each partnership provides educational and exchange opportunities for students and other individuals who participate in these programs.  Currently, established partnerships are with the following organizations:

  • Ching Kuo Institute of Management and Health, Keelung, Taiwan
